Sonoma County Tourism website has updated fire, emergency, housing, volunteer and donation information: http://www.sonomacounty.com/fire
Just a note to say that we are ok and family/home/business intact, we feel lucky but heartbroken for our community.
With the encouragement of our tourism and wine industry agencies, we are remaining open for wine tourism business. But please expect slower response to inquiries, as we will be doing our best to support our community, by keeping our small local business up and going, but also by helping neighbors who are in need right now.
Here is a picture of us saying thank you to the fire fighters this morning of Oct. 16th. This crew just got off duty nearby and stopped at our driveway to clean up/pack up gear. I asked them for a picture for #sonomastrong because seeing this and hearing stories helps cope, get through this and heal ... and they said put the kid in the picture and that they’re so so so appreciative of the immense gratitude that they can really feel that our community is sending them. Thank you to all the firefighters, and to my family who stayed here all this past week watching and doing fire prevention work and animal care for us and our ranch. Today the kids went to school - their teachers are all there collecting donations and providing childcare so that we can help our community. I’m not sure it’s a good idea, it is still smoky and the Tubbs fire is 2 to 3 miles from our house. But for now it feels absolutely right (and we are safe) and just so needed to be in our community and frankly needed to cry- I am smiling in this picture but I’m really crying and can’t believe the State of Emergency all around us and the stress and conflict of feeling so thankful that we’re ok still and so is our home and all of our extended family including neighbors, but at the same time feeling just heart broken for every friend and family who have lost homes or loved ones to this terrible and surreal disaster and those who are still (like all of us) watching so closely all fire updates, maps and air quality alerts. No one is not affected, I just can’t believe it. I’ve been seeing this slogan on hand made posters and it’s perfect: “The love in the air is thicker than the smoke”. #sonomastrong #tubbsfire #sonomacounty #sonomacountyfire #sonomacountystrong
