Thank you so much for your interest in writing about us. Here are some facts to be aware of as you compose your story and you can download our backgrounder here.

  • Alice Warnecke Sutro founded SUTRO Wine Co. in 2012. Alice manages all aspects of SUTRO Wine Co., including directing the winemaking with support from consulting winemaker Lisa Bishop Forbes.

  • Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Sauvignon Blanc grapes for SUTRO wines are sourced from Warnecke Ranch and Vineyard. There is no tasting room or winery on site.

  • The wine is made at the Medlock Ames production facility across the street from Warnecke Ranch, where Alice also conducts tastings.

  • Alice hosts wine patrons for hikes at Warnecke Ranch to promote SUTRO. The tasting portion of the tour takes place in the barrel room at Medlock Ames.

  • Alice and Eliot live at the Ranch with their kids Isabel and Adin. Warnecke Ranch & Vineyard II, LP is a limited partnership owned by members of the Warnecke family.

  • Alice works for her family’s ranch and grape-growing business, assisting in vineyard and ranch management.

  • Margo Warnecke Merck is the managing partner of Warnecke Ranch & Vineyard II, LP. She is a grape-grower and the vineyard manager, as well as president of the Warnecke Institute, overseeing the operation and management of Chalk Hill Artist Residency and the family architectural archives.

  • Chalk Hill Artist Residency was founded by the Warnecke family in 2010, it is located at Warnecke Ranch.
